On a clear day in the 1970's, three buildings were moved up the hill from Gay Street onto North Main Street in Sharon, and became 91, 93 and 95 North Main Street.

Eventually, the three buildings were converted into six rental apartments -- two apartments per building.

A local resident owned the buildings and rented them out on an affordable basis -- essentially a privately conceived and privately executed affordable housing development.

Over the years, the buildings continued to provide affordable housing. But age and use led to a backlog of renovation needs.
In 2023, the Sharon Housing Trust bought the three buildings, with financial support from the prior owner and from generous local individuals. The Trust then applied for renovation grant money from the Connecticut Department of Housing.

By 2025, the Trust had expanded its plans to include the building next door at 99 North Main Street. This was the old town community center, which the Trust proposed to convert into four more affordable rental units.
Finally, in late 2025, the Trust closed on a $2 million grant from the Department of Housing, to upgrade 91, 93 and 95 and convert 99.

With this money, and substantial gifts from local foundations and individuals, the Trust plans to create a renovated campus of four buildings and ten affordable rental apartments.
