Our History

A quiet, tree-lined street with vintage houses and old cars.

Our Beginnings in 2005

The Sharon Housing Trust was created in 2005 by a group of long-time Sharon residents who were working with the Town of Sharon as it drafted its first affordable housing plan.

The Original Board

In 2005, the board consisted of the following members:

Melinda Sweet

Larry Power

Chris Clow

Tom Bartram

Ella Clark

Mary Kirby

Eugene Lattimer

Michael Lynch

David Moore

Sharon Tingley

The original operating program for the Sharon Housing Trust involved providing single-family, New England-style homes for those who worked or lived in Sharon. The homes were to be scattered throughout Sharon on individual lots. Affordability was to be maintained in perpetuity.

Changes in 2023

In 2023, a new board of Sharon residents was put in place to continue the work of the prior board. Since then, the Sharon Housing Trust has purchased 91, 93 and 95 North Main Street, which contain six occupied, 2-bedroom, affordable rental apartments; leased 99 North Main Street from the Town of Sharon; begun renovations of 91, 93 and 95 and the conversion of 99 to provide four more 2-bedroom, affordable rental apartments; been given a building plot at 160 Silver Lake Shores Road; and taken steps toward the construction of a new one-family, 3-bedroom house on that plot which the Trust plans to sell at an affordable price when completed. For a list of our current board members, see "Who We Are -- Our Directors & Officers."
